Shazia Nazir

Shazia comes from the Indian-administered part of Kashmir and is pursuing a Master’s in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University. Born in a conflict zone, she writes, “I have always been interested in both conflict resolution and management and the various processes of development.” She has worked as a researcher for a local human rights group and as a newspaper reporter, focusing on local security issues.   Both experiences gave her a deep understanding of the pain inflicted by conflict, and she made up her mind to work to improve the welfare of society and people. She believes that “to achieve peace in conflict-ridden areas, development can play a greater role, but to build theoretical understanding about peace and conflict transformation, I need to widen my understanding…the program will provide me with a chance to look at other similar conflicts for comparative study.”  She enjoys listening to music and reading books.
